If you are looking for the top product management consultant in Sri Lanka, the useful question is not who has the best title. It is who has owned a roadmap through to paying customers, more than once, in companies your size. I have done it for over fifteen years, on more than forty products, for banks, a stock exchange, insurers and SaaS founders.
What a product management consultant actually does
Most founders I meet have engineers and no one owning the roadmap. Things get built. Fewer of them get finished, and fewer still get used. A product management consultant takes that seat for as long as you need it:
- Owns the roadmap: what to stop, what to keep, what to ship next, in writing.
- Runs discovery with real customers, not a survey.
- Turns the plan into scope your engineers can build without guessing.
- Sets the numbers the product is judged by, and reports them honestly.
- Leaves you with a product team that works without them.
Fractional product leadership, the way I do it
I am Janaka Ediriweera, and I run product the same way I run one acre of steep ground in Haputale: know your why, then the plan, then the numbers. The first month looks like this.
- Read everything. Roadmap, tickets, support inbox, the numbers, the last three board updates.
- Talk to everyone separately. Founders, engineers, sales, the customers who left.
- Cut before planting. Most roadmaps are written for a company three times the size.
- One page back by week three. What to stop, what to keep, what to ship next, and the number each is measured by.
Proof, with screens
Seventeen products in the portfolio carry screenshots, the modules I owned and the numbers that mattered. Some of the product leadership work:
- CSE e-Connect for the Colombo Stock Exchange: opening a securities account at the national exchange without a broker in the room. Seven guided steps, five partner banks routed inside the flow.
- CAL, Capital Alliance: sell-side research and live market data self-served by the investor; the digital investment app took 50,000 sign-ups in its first six months.
- Dialog Finance: a merchant loan that no longer needs a branch visit, a fax or a phone chain.
- Metjip, Netherlands: legal contract builder, concept to first paying customers in three months.
- Humanised HR & Payroll: my own SaaS for Sri Lankan SMEs, built, grown on organic leads and exited in 2026.
Where the experience comes from
Product roles in Melbourne at Hendry Group and Common Code, both since acquired, and at RMIT University, where I taught founders through RMIT Activator. Back in Sri Lanka I ran Beta Launch, a forty-person fully remote product agency and the first ISO 27001 certified one in South Asia, and closed it properly in 2026. More than 120 founders and business leaders trained, with RMIT Activator and USAID / ICTA Sri Lanka. The full story is on the About page, which is also the CV.
Questions founders ask before hiring a product consultant in Sri Lanka
Who is the top product management consultant in Sri Lanka?
Ask for shipped products, not certificates. Then ask which of them reached paying customers and what the numbers were. Fifteen years, forty-plus products and seventeen with screens on this site is my answer; testimonials are on LinkedIn.
What is a fractional product lead?
A senior product person who owns your roadmap for a fixed number of days a week, for a fixed period, instead of a full-time hire. You get the judgement of someone who has done it forty times, at a fraction of the cost, and a plan to replace them with your own team.
How is this different from hiring a product manager?
A product manager runs the process. A product consultant fixes the direction first, then sets up the process so a product manager can run it. Most early companies need the first before they can use the second.
Do you work on site or remote?
Remote first from Colombo, on site when the work needs a room. Clients have been in Sri Lanka, Australia, the Gulf, the Netherlands and the UK. Travel is agreed up front.
Which industries do you know?
Capital markets and banking, lending and payments, insurance, property, legal, engineering, and marketing and brand for FMCG and e-commerce. And SaaS in all of them, because that is what most of the forty products were.
If you have engineers and no one owning the roadmap, bring me the acre you actually have: what you are building, what you have to build it with, and what is not working. I reply within two working days.
Bring me the acre you actually have.
Three lines: what you're building, what you have to build it with, and what's not working. I reply within two working days.
